divaTunes: ‘LOL’ Ja Rule ft. Ashanti

Ja Rule and Ashanti collaborate for the first time in seven years for “LOL.”  This is a brand new track from the Murder Inc rapper who starts a prison bid next month.  The track is produced by Ja himself and samples the classic Stevie Wonder song “Master Blaster (Jammin’).”  The song still maintains its laidback vibe, and of course Rule is doing what he does best: “sapping”- my word to describe singing and rapping together.

Ashanti and Ja Rule have a history of making hits together.  All of their collaborations have been hits, including 2001’s “Always On Time,” 2003’s “Mesmerize,” and 2005’s “Wonderful,” all of which have been on the Billboard top 5.  Ja Rule will drop his next album, P.ain I.s L.ove 2, on June 7, and start his prison term June 8.  When he is released, he plans to hit the road for his “40 Days/40 Nights Around the World” tour.
