Kelly Rowland Talks Mr. Right, DC and Interracial Dating with VIBE

The “Juicy” Issue of Vibe has finally hit magazine shelves and we have highlights from the cover story: Kelly Rowland.  See what she has to say about her first solo success, Destiny’s Child and being down with “the swirl:”

On the success of “Dilemma:”

No, I really wasn’t. And I was the first one from the group to have that level of success outside of the group. That bugged me out. I was very… I wasn’t ready. The song blew up and Columbia decided to rush out your solo record.Yeah. The plan was for Beyoncé to drop a solo record fi rst. But with the success of the song, they decided to put my album out first. They gave me 90 days to do an entire record.

On the press making assumptions about Destiny’s Child:

They want me to say that I can’t stand Michelle. That I can’t stand Beyoncé. But that’s not the case. It’s real love. Sorry, it’s a boring story. I take that back. I’m not sorry. We can support each other. That’s the way it should be. You hear too many stories about women bickering. And that’s not the case with us.

On whether there’s tension between her and former manager Matthew Knowles:

No. It was just a feeling of growing and wanting to call my own shots. That was it. I thank Mathew for everything he’s done for me. He made me a millionaire at 18 years old. And then I felt like, “Well, I’m an adult now and I want to do things this way.”

On whether she wants a “Mr. Right Now” or “Mr. Right:”

I like a Mr. Right. I don’t want them hopping around with Sarah, Michelle, Jessica… I want him to be mine.

On whether she dates outside of her race:

Absolutely. [Laughs] I’ve been down with the swirl.

Amy Winehouse Covers Vibe

The late, great Amy Winehouse covers Vibe’s “Juice Issue” dropping August 16.  The other cover features Kelly Rowland (click here to take a peek).  In the issue, Amy’s frequent collaborator and close friend Salaam Remi recalls his last days with the British singer:

I’m in London now. I’m out here because [Amy and I] were supposed to go to a wedding today. And before I could get to her yesterday she passed. We were going to the wedding of Nick Symansky, who is the person who really found her. He found her when he was a scout at 19. And he was the manager before they got the Universal deal.

They went ahead with the wedding. All I could do was sit there and imagine how many jokes she would have been cracking with me. We were in the middle of working on the album. She finished writing the record. We just hadn’t recorded.

For the last couple of weeks we were video chatting regularly. I was just talking to Nas. Both her and Nas were born on September 14, so we were going to Barbados with all of them for her birthday. She really doesn’t look forward to her birthday, you know what I’m saying?

Still so sad.  Rest in peace.

Kelly Rowland Goes Shirtless for Vibe

The men will definitely want to be Kelly Rowland’s motivation after seeing her on the cover of Vibe’s “Juice Issue.”  Kelly looks gorg with her now signature long locks and hands strategically placed across her chest.

Interview highlights:

VIBE: The last album didn’t do well in the States. It did better overseas, particularly in Europe. Do you feel more appreciated in Europe?
Kelly Rowland: No, not really. People still compare me to B over there. I said in an interview recently, ‘You know, if you guys would be a little bit more intelligent and ask me about myself we’ll have a much better interview.’ You can’t want a story from me and keep asking me about the past.

When you walked away from that last meeting with Mathew, did you feel an “exhale” moment?
I did, but I also felt like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?!’ I stayed in the house for two days. I was sad. It was like a funeral. I had to deaden that situation in order to start fresh. That’s a very long time to have the same manager and the same label.

What about your personal relationship with Mathew Knowles. Do you still talk to him?
Mathew sent me flowers for my birthday!

But do you talk to him?
It’s… I respect him above anything.

Speaking of this road we’re going on… Let’s talk about the song “Motivation.” I have to admit, the song went completely over my head. I thought you were talking about working out.
[Laughs] No, honey.

When you heard the song, did you think, This may be too racy for my image?
Not at all. Every woman knows what that feels like—hopefully. But everyone doesn’t expect Kelly to sing about it. This is true. But I just loved the song so much. And yes, I can relate to it. I came into my sexuality while I was recording this album. I can walk into a sex shop now and not worry about what people would say if they saw me in there.

You really do that? Go to sex shops?
Yeah! With friends on the low. I go at the right time. Nighttime. 1 a.m. The really good ones are open that late.

LOL @ the interviewer thinking “Motivation” was about exercise.  Come on now!!!  You can read the full interview when it hits stands August 16.  The second cover will be an Amy Winehouse tribute.

Are you buying Here I Am today?

Look At Her Now: Raven Symone in Vibe

Raven Symone looks like a supermodel inside the pages of Vibe magazine.  All eyes have been on her lately since she lost some weight and debuted her new ABC Family show State of Georgia.  Raven talks briefly about reactions to her weight loss and not getting too raunchy:

On reactions to her weight loss
I find it funny that people now come up to me and say, ‘Wow, you are absolutely gorgeous’. I’m like, ‘I was beautiful before I lost weight. Egotistically speaking, I thought I was amazing’

On why she keeps it PG 13
It’s not so much about showing my sexy side because of the kids, I have to answer to my mama and brother, my dad and my grandparents, the ones I have to look in the eyes every day when I take my weave and eyelashes out.

On her new character
Ironically, my character is supposed to be the size that I was before. So I have to wear thicker body pads on the show.

I always thought she was freaking gorg! Get ’em Raven!!

Amber Rose Says “Fxck Vibe Magazine!”

We reported to you last week that socialite Amber Rose would cover Vibe’s “Sexy Issue” and also have a story inside.  She went into detail about her relationships with Kanye West and Reggie Bush as well as making a name for herself.  If you want to see those highlights, click here.

It looks like Amber is NOT happy with how the interview came out, because she expressed her disgust with Vibe this weekend via Twitter:

“Just read “my” interview in @VibeMagazine half of the story was untrue & ridiculous! F##K that Cover F##K @VibeMagazine yall wrote a bunch of negative bullshit that I never said or did. Yall don’t give a f*ck that I have a Mom & Family thats gonna read that fake ass shit I gave yall a truthful interview & Yall f##ked me. I’m so sick of keeping my mouth shut I didn’t ask for this life it was handed to me. I wasnothing but nice to everyone I spoke to @ Vibe”

From what we saw in the highlights, the interview doesn’t seem so bad.  In fact, I think they showed Amber in a genuine and honest light that many of her fans will appreciate.  Guess we will have to wait until the issue hits news stands and we can read the whole thing.

What do you think of Amber’s reaction: appropriate or overreacting?

Amber Rose Covers VIBE Magazine, Talks Kanye West & Reggie Bush

Amber Rose is still relevant with her new found love in Wiz Khalifa and random shots fired at her by ex-boo Kanye West. In this issue of VIBE Amber is answering the questions we all want to know. What happened with Reggie Bush?? And is it real love with Wiz?? Check out the highlights.

AMBER ON LIFE POST-KANYE:

“What am I supposed to do? Crawl up in a corner and die ‘cause I’m not with Kanye anymore? Am I supposed to go back to the strip club and not take these opportunities that I have?”

AMBER OF HER RELATIONSHIP WITH REGGIE BUSH:

“Me and Reggie [Bush] dated very briefly after Kanye…We were both each other’s rebound and we both knew that and were cool with that.”

AMBER ON WHY HER STORY IS RELATABLE:

“I don’t have rich parents and it’s a struggle. I can’t just call my dad and be like, ‘Dad, my money is a little messed up. Can you buy me a car or a house? It’s not like that for me. I feel like more people will relate to my story than the Kardashians or the Hiltons.”

AMBER ON BEING ICONIC:

“Kanye would always tell be how beautiful I was and that I was going to be iconic. He always said that, ‘Baby, you are iconic. You don’t understand what you have.’ I didn’t. I didn’t understand it.”

Say what you want about Amber but this chick keeps it real….and she beautiful so lets not hate her please!!

divaFotos: Rick Ross Covers Vibe and Complex (Interview Highlights)

All of Rick Ross’ albums have debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and it looks like he’s aiming to do the same again.  In an effort to promote the Maybach Music collective album Self Made, Ross covers two of hip-hop’s biggest magazines.

He collaborated with SNL funnyman Andy Samberg for a Jaws inspired cover for Complex:

He’s also posing shirtless on the cover of Vibe’s “Sexy Issue.” Who find this sexy?:

Inside, radio personality Angela Yee interviews Ross and the rest of the Maybach crew.  Check out this hilarious excerpt:

Angela Yee: Have you ever messed with a girl that you were embarrassed about and you hoped no one finds out?

Wale: When I was younger. Seeing them in the club the next time like, Damn, if I could see me from last week I’d beat the shit out of me. I’d put a roofie in my own joint so I don’t end up talking to this chick.

Meek Mill: Like 3:30 in the morning, not having a girl. It be like that sometimes. I fuck a lot of bad women, don’t get it twisted. I got a thick one, a little husky… I got that one and she’s always around. And people found out I hit it—

[All laugh]

Mill: She ain’t fat. She’s thick. She’s like 25 percent over the line.

Pill: She had a few too many goddamn double cheeseburgers.

What about you, Ross?

Ross: I be sliding through the ‘hood, I can’t lie. I love extravagant exotic women, but I come from the ‘hood at the same time. So if I’m in my Chevy riding through the ‘hood and you see one of those ghetto girls in a hot pink shirt, you’re just like ‘Hey, put your number in this.’ I’m still in touch with the ‘hood like that.

______________________

Pill, I’ve seen you with some crackheads.

[All laugh]

Mill: Pill is a ‘hood nigga, for real. He doesn’t give a fuck.

Pill: On some real shit, I’ve had some that didn’t look all that right. I play like I ain’t know it that day in the club because—

Ross: You can’t act like you don’t know it.

Wale: That’s what makes them go crazy.

Pill: I ain’t gon’ lie, one of my worse experiences was waking up in the morning years ago and I looked over to my left and said, “Aww, man, what the fuck were you doing, dog?”

Ross: I can’t sleep the whole night with a chick. Before sunrise, shorty, you got to go.

Pill: Obviously, I was too fucked up in the first place to have you in my bed and in my house if you’re looking that bad. So I went to sleep and when I got up, I’m asking you, “What went down? Did I really just…”

Ross: You done ate the pussy.

HILARIOUS!!!

Da Brat’s First Interview Since Prison Release

Da Brat was just released from prison after 2 years last week and she is already doing interviews.  She sat down with Vibe to talk about her braids, the Lil Kim/Nicki Minaj beef, and who came to visit her in prison.  Check the highlights:

Are you going to switch up your braids for a fresh start?
My hair is my glory. I’m definitely going to switch up the braids. It’s time to do some different things. It might be braided, but also straight or the big curly look. I like the big curly look on me so I’m going to get with my hair girl. I’m ready to dibble and dabble more. I’m ready to do the glam thing but with my Brat swag. I wanna add some more femininity. I’ma bring back some “What Do You Like” Brat. I’m kind of tired of the braids, but at the same time I’m comfortable.

Brat, welcome back! JD was tweeting like crazy about your release. Can we expect to find you on Twitter anytime soon?

[Laughs Oh yeah I’m figuring out how to work all that Twitter stuff now. I haven’t been around a computer for a minute ’cause we don’t have computer access in state facilities. But JD just put me on to Global 14 and I’ve heard of Twitter and there’s a Facebook page with a perpetrator pretending to be me. But I don’t have a Facebook page yet! [Laughs I’ll have that and a Twitter page though by the end of the week. I don’t what my name will be yet, but I’m going to figure it all out. Twitter’s the thing to do now so I gotta get into it.

Indeed. There are a lot of folks that would lose their minds without Twitter in prison. How did you spend your days in the pen?
They had a lot of things for us to do. We went out to rec and played sports. They had auto paint and auto body, they had computer classes. It was almost like a college situation, except you can’t leave [laughs. I wrote a book. I did quite a few things. Then I became a third shift orderly where at night I stayed up with a crew of homegirls and we cleaned the showers, buffed the floors, we had our headphones on bumping our cds. We made the best of it.

How were your nights resting in a cell?
I didn’t call my room a cell. That was my suite. I had to lay my head there so I made the best of it. It was comfortable for me. Once they do inspection you gotta have it clean, but when that’s done I had posters on there, everything.

Well the sexy tomboy look is in. Are you feeling Nicki Minaj’s swag?
I listened to Nicki Minaj’s album and liked it. She’s not keeping herself in a bubble. I like the diversity and that it’s working for her. Because at one point they weren’t letting female rappers do too much. It was either your selling sex or your being hard. But she gets to do both. That’s a good thing.

Safe to say you’d do a collab then?
Hell yeah I would.

Now what about her and Lil’ Kim’s beef?
My personal thoughts on beefing… when it’s only like 6 of us left still trying to put out records… it’s not enough for us to beef. It makes no sense to me. But if that’s what they do let them do that.

How did you find out about Mariah’s pregnancy?
Oh man! I talk to Mariah often and her and Nick came to see me. I knew about the miscarriage and I know she’s having the twins. And I know she only wanted to do it one time. They are like the cutest couple, they both are eternally 12. I swear! They’re big kids.

Who else came out to visit you?
Of course my sister. JD couldn’t take it… He said he didn’t want to see me in that light. But he was very supportive and wrote me all the time. People talked shit but he was very supportive. Gave me everything I needed. Kat Williams came to see me. All my family and friends.

Who was most surprising visitor?
Mariah and Nick surprised me! I saw someone from their crew and said ‘Oh shit!’ I would’ve never thought that she would’ve came, she’s so girly! But that’s what real friends do.

I hope she puts out some music because frankly, I’m sick of Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj throwing shots at each other….it’s exhausting to listen and watch.
