Blink 182 have finally shot the visuals for their comeback single “Up All Night” and the we have the final product for you here. Kids take over a small suburban town as Blink rocks out in the middle of the street. Reminds me of my younger days….I used to love Blink.
Blink-182 has gotten massive amounts of positive feedback for their new single “Up All Night.” It sort of makes you wonder why they went on an “indefinite hiatus” back in 2005, right?
Blink member Tom DeLonge explains the break-up, blaming it on a “machine” bigger than the band:
“The reason the band broke up was really stupid in the first place; it’s not like anybody had sex with each other’s wives. Though, for how bad we hated each other, that should have been what happened.”
“The band got so big that the machine running the band took over. We were burnt out, we needed a break, but the machine won’t let you do that,” he continued. “The band had stopped communicating because the machine was so big.”
“My priority was my family, and my life had to be structured in a way where I had to be around for my daughter … and they wanted to keep touring, and it didn’t work out to where our priorities were the same,” he said. “The last words that were said to me by my bandmembers were, ‘If your family is going to be your priority, then you better be cool with the repercussions.’ … I think there was a lot of paranoia and a lot of bitterness between all of us.” <<<<Woah. That’s deep.
Thankfully, all three members are together and better than ever. Their album Neighborhoods is set to drop later this year and Tom calls it their best work yet:
“The album’s amazing … it’s very modern, very relevant to rock music today,” he said. “But we made sure to throw a couple of songs in there that sound like they’re from the mid-’90s. It’s gigantic. It’s made for big places.”
Equal parts new music and tunes with the throwback 90’s sound? Blink fans are going to eat this up! If you haven’t heard “Up All Night” yet, listen here.
Blink 182 promised fans new music for the past two years and now, we can finally hear a finished product. “Up All Night” is the band’s first official single in almost seven years and while it has elements of their sound from the 90’s/early 2000’s, this is definitely a new Blink for the 21st century. In an email to MTV News, lead singer Mark Hoppus explains the song’s progress over the past two years:
” ‘Up All Night’ was the first song that we started writing when the band got back together. The foundation of the song remains largely the same as when we first began, but over the past two years, as we’ve been recording others songs, coming back to this one, working on something else, coming back to this song, it’s gotten harder and heavier than its original incarnation.”
“Initially the chorus had much more air. It was a lofty, synth-y chorus, but we wanted the first song that people heard to be much more of a rocker. We changed a bunch of the instrumentation, recorded heavier guitars and bass, and Tom [DeLonge] wrote the progression that the guitars take on in the chorus. Then Travis [Barker] took it over and the drums really solidified the rock element of the track. The half-time intro of the last section was all him, and I think punctuates the song very well.”
The song has gotten rave reviews since its release yesterday and the band couldn’t be happier:
“I’m so glad to finally have new music out, and cannot believe how well it has been received. [Our website] crashed out several times, my Google-plus account crashed out twice, and blink-182 was a top trending topic worldwide. Totally amazing. Now, I can’t wait for the album itself to be released.”
Take a listen. Are you feeling “Up All Night?”
