‘The Throne’ Upsets Indie Record Store Owners

You can’t make everyone happy, huh?

Any news associated with Jay-Z and Kanye West’s joint album Watch the Throne has been met with excitement from fans everywhere…until now.  In case you didn’t know, the highly anticipated album will be sold exclusively on Itunes starting August 8 and at popular electronics store Best Buy.  The deluxe album will be sold there until August 23, when the album will finally be available to other retailers.  Now, independent record store owners ask…”What about us?”

In a letter signed by more than 1,700 record store retailers, they ask for equal access to their music:

“We know that you are busy, and that you put most of your energies into creating great music, but we are writing to you in the hope that you will hear us and take the time to rectify this matter,” the letter states. “As representatives of the independent record store music community, we are asking you to allow record stores and music fans equal access to your new album.”

The letter’s original writers include organizers of “Record Store Day,” a national holiday for most indie store retailers.  A close source to the group, Doyle Davis, let press know that some of the signees will remove current and previous releases by the two artists if their request isn’t meant.

As of now, Jay-Z’s camp has no comment and Kanye’s rep have yet to respond to an email from The Associated Press.

Whose side are you on?
