Lupe Fiasco Quits Twitter

The show will go on for Lupe Fiasco….just not on Twitter.

Today, he announced that he would be leaving the social networking site without giving a specific reason:

“i’m quitting twitter. it was fun while it lasted.  thanks for the support on #lasers and i will see you all on the road soon… don’t forget…Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile….”

He then passed his account to singer Nikki Jean, who is featured on his album Lasers.  She immediately started promoting her music and changed the background to a picture of her upcoming album.

“Big thank you to @LupeFiasco for supporting my record. He won’t be gone for too long.. Promise ;-)”

Hmmmm….does this mean he’ll be back for more Twitter action? Many celebs (Cassie, Kid Cudi) have shut down their accounts, only to activate them again.

Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz come together- literally- for the single cover to “Out of My Head,” the next single from Lupe’s chart-topping album Lasers.  The two will perform the song at this year’s MTV Movie Awards on June 5.  Lupe previously told Rap-Up TV about Trey:

“I’m a big fan of his writing, big fan of his whole movement…He’s a supertalent.”

I agree Lupe!  Do we like this cover?

Video: Lupe Fiasco and Skylar Grey on ‘The Colbert Report’

Skylar Grey was on hand to help Lupe Fiasco perform his very political single “Words I Never Said.”  This is the first time the two have performed the song together.  Before performing, the very funny Stephen Colbert sat down for a chat with Lupe and he had this to say about Bin Laden’s death and President Obama:

“I always criticize power,” said the Chicago MC, “Even if you agree with it, you should criticize power.”

Very inneresting.  Watch the interview and performance below:

Lupe Fiasco Covers May 2011 XXL

Lupe Fiasco is looking very enlightened indeed on the May 2011 cover of XXL Magazine.  The cover story and interview is conducted by XXL writer Thomas Golianopoulos; the Chicago MC talks about his much publicized struggles with Atlantic Records and his underwhelming feelings after he was #1 on the Billboard 200:

“I wasn’t completely overwhelmed because now I have to go into the business meetings…Now I’m waiting for, ‘If you didn’t say you hated the album in that interview, we would have done 300,000.’”

Hmm…inneresting.

Lupe’s Atlantic Records labelmates Wiz Khalifa and G.O.O.D Music signee Big Sean are also featured as well as a tribute to West Coast “hookmaker” Nate Dogg, who passed a few weeks ago.

The issue hits stands April 26.
