Kreayshawn’s popularity is on the rise and while we here at divaMissioN aren’t her biggest fans (or fans at all), she sold out the Highline Ballroom in NYC. Amazing. Yes, the song already has remixes from artists we do love such as Lil’ Wayne and Trey Songz. Watch as she has the entire room rapping along with her:
Kreayshawn, of YouTube and “Gucci Gucci” fame, stopped by Cosmic Kev’s radio show for an interview and managed to slip in a freestyle as well. I’m sure fans and critics alike are wondering if she has the skills to pay the bills. Watch below and find out:
My opinion??? Homegirl should stick to writing stuff out. There’s more to write about than “basic bitches” and THC…but that’s just my opinion. What do you think?
Up and comer Kreayshawn and her “White Girl Mob” have caused quite a bit of controversy since the viral “Gucci Gucci” hit the net. Some adore her and some criticize her for “inappropriately appropriating black culture.” Despite all of that, she’s just secured a lucrative record deal with Columbia Records and has the support of one of the biggest names in hip-hop.
Drake called into Invasion Radio, cosigning the Oakland native and wanting a future collaboration:
“I honestly get excited when new things happen in hip-hop and when I heard ‘Gucci Gucci,’ I heard the flows, I was excited before I even knew who she was. And you know I got to hear a little bit more of the music beyond that and then to meet her and the energy that she has is great. She’s just a great person. She’s good people. That’s my dog.”
(When asked if he would collaborate with her) “Anytime she’s ready. I got bars on deck for that.”
What are your thoughts on Kreayshawn?
YouTube sensation and white girl rapper Kreayshawn (pronounced Kray-Shawn) has just signed a lucrative deal with Columbia Records. She joins John Legend, Maxwell and Beyonce who are also signed with the company. The 21 year old, real name Natassia Zolot, will release “Gucci, Gucci,” her viral hit, to digital retailers on June 14 and her debut album later this year.
She’s far from cookie cutter, describing herself as this on her website :
“I’m a piece of shit but, I am raw talent. Nothing but, unfiltered pain and torture I received as a child in the cold world,” she wrote. “Nothing’s nice about my style. I just got shit to do. Art is my means to my hustle. I just wanna share everything with everyone.”
She also seems to love smoking weed…how nice. She’s also excited to be signed:
“I’m excited to work with my new Columbia family,” stated Kreayshawn. “They understand my vision and are going to let me continue everything I’ve been doing. My hope is to inspire others to be young, wild, and free.”
I’m not sure what to think of this girl. I’ve watched “Gucci, Gucci” a few times and I would credit her success to her image rather than her rhymes. I think their pretty wack, but that’s just me. She’s also gotten a lot of backlash for “appropriating black culture.” What do you think?
