Video: Songwriter Linda Perry Calls Katy Perry’s Music ‘Microwave Popcorn’

Katy Perry has made headlines for the past couple of months.  Her album Teenage Dream is a global success, accompanied by a successful world tour propelled by 5 #1 hits….the first for a female artist.

However, not everyone is on the pop songtress’s side.  Linda Perry is quite an iconic songwriter.  Besides having a successful career of her own, she is responsible for many of the hits you’ve heard in the past ten years, including Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” most of Pink’s album Mizzunderstood, Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?” and Alicia Keys’ “Superwoman.”  During an interview in Hollywood, Perry was asked about her opinion on the music industry, calling it “different.”

She went on to call Adele’s album “solid,” but didn’t have too many nice things to say about Ms. Perry.  She calls her music “microwave popcorn,” says she’s not out to change the world of music, but instead create singles that people want now.

I totally agree with what she’s saying, but I think she could’ve said it in a nicer way.  Watch below and decide  for yourself:

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson Record

Katy Perry proves that pop music rules the charts with her multi-platinum album Teenage Dream.  Besides making her acting debut in The Smurfs and headlining a world tour, this diva has even more exciting news.

She is the first female artist EVER to have FIVE #1 SINGLES from one album.  “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” have all made it to the top of the Billboard charts.

Katy ties the overall record with the iconic Michael Jackson.  His album Bad spawned five number one hits as well:  “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana.”

Mrs. Russell Brand showed her appreciations to fans via Twitter earlier today:

“What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY!…&u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu.”

Congrats, diva!

Rihanna Talks Being Dominant, Her Role Model Status and Music in Glamour

Ri-Ri and her big red hair cover the September 2011 issue of Glamour Magazine.  Inside, she’s talking about all kinds of stuff and we’ve got interview highlights for you:

On hating drama and perfection:

“I hate drama. But at the same time, nothing bothers me more than when life’s perfect. And that’s the sick part. I just love a challenge, whether it’s a relationship, my career, clothing…”

On her attention-getting sense of style:

“Getting dressed, I want to pick the most bizarre pair of shorts so I can figure out how to make it look right, or work an outfit that will make people go, “What the hell is she wearing?”

On dealing with how messy life can get:

“I think honesty is the ultimate liberation in life. People want to shy away from the truth and keep sweeping it under the rug. But after a while, you pick up the rug and there’s just way too much dirt, so you might as well just be up front about it.”

On being a role model for young girls:

“In the beginning of my career, it was really strict for me. I couldn’t wear pink or red lipstick; it was just bizarre. We had a young fan base, and they were trying to keep me fresh. But I just really wanted to be myself. I wanted to be sassy, the attitude, all these things that I am.  I want to set the right example and, at the same time, live my life….I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.”

On liking dominant guys in the bedroom:

“I play a very dominant role in my life, in every aspect of it. And I like to feel like a lady still, at some point. I feel like that’s the time when a guy really gets to be a man, and I get to be a woman. And if I’m being a man in the bedroom too, there’s nothing really in it for me.”

On fellow female musicians:

“There’s a pack. It’s me, Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé…who else? Ke$ha, for sure. Women are definitely dominating music right now, and that’s because we are competitive beings. I feel like music hasn’t been this exciting in a while.”

On her friendship with Katy Perry:

“All my friends are guys, to be completely honest. But when I met her, it was such a breath of fresh air. I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button…. Katy and Lady Gaga came out of the gate exactly the way they think, the way they wanna dress, the way they wanna speak.”

Katy Perry Covers “Rolling Stone” Magazine

katy perry rolling stone Hot Shot: Katy Perry Covers Rolling Stone

Currently on a worldwide tour this California Girl turns it up for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. With her breasts made to appear as Hershey Kisses which are now Kathy’s kisses, she reveals to the mag how bad she wanted and prayed for breasts at the age of 11.

“I started praying for [breasts] when I was, like, 11,” she says. “And God answered that prayer above and beyond, by, like, 100 times, until I was like, ‘Please, stop, God … I cannot see my feet anymore. Please stop!’”

Check out the interview highlights below:

On Russell Brand: “He’s changed so much. If I have a hangover, I just look at him and say, ‘How the f–k did you do heroin every day, when I can’t even have three glasses of wine and not want to ever drink again?’”

“I’m so happy he lived, of course. God bless him.”

On Gwen Stefani and some other unnamed b!tch: “I remember coming to L.A. for the first time and meeting Gwen Stefani and how gracious and wonderful she was.”

“Then I met another favorite artist of mine and what a c–t she was. It ruined my dreams of that person, that c–t. I will always be a fan of the person who was gracious.”

On her critics: “Whenever people ask me about having bad reviews, I’m like, ‘Have you seen the run I’ve had? Have you see the numbers?’”

“Numbers do not lie! I’m not a dummy, I know ‘California Gurls’ isn’t going to save the world. But I put a lot of heart into my songs.”

On her political awakening: “It just feels like the thing running our country is a bank, money … I know it sounds like an intense viewpoint, but I’m only slowly but surely getting the wool taken off my eyes.”

“When I was a kid, I asked questions about my faith. Now I’m asking questions about the world. I think we are largely in desperate need of revolutionary change in the way our mindset is.”

“Our priority is fame, and people’s wellness is way low. I saw this knowing full well that I’m a part of the problem. I’m playing the game, though I am trying to reroute.”

“Anyway, not to get all politically divulging and introspective, but the fact that America doesn’t have free health care drives me fucking absolutely crazy, and is so wrong.”

Katy is just one down to earth chick isn’t she!

Video: ‘Last Friday Night (TGIF)’ Katy Perry

Katy Perry gets the party started in her video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF),” the next single from her platinum selling album Teenage Dream. In the fun loving visuals, we see Katy as an awkward teenager invited to a raging party hosted by….Rebecca Black?! I think I also see Kevin McHale from Glee, but I could be wrong.

Katy makes the catchiest pop songs and I cannot get over that mouth guard she’s wearing!
