‘The Situation’ & MTV- 1, Abercrombie & Fitch- 0

When it comes to clothing brands and celebrities, the latter are usually paid to rock the hottest thing out.  Today, in a surprise move, Abercrombie & Fitch offered money to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino in exchange for him NOT wearing their clothes.  That’s right folks; Abercrombie & Fitch don’t like the Jersey Shore.

The clothing company issued a press release this morning titled “A Win-Win Situation.”  It reads:

“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspiration nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans…We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently awaiting a response.”

What is ironic about this whole “situation” is that the company still sells their wildly popular “The Fitchuation” t-shirts online, which are no doubt inspired by the Jersey Shore cast member.  Both MTV and Sorrentino have commented on the press release.

“It’s a clever PR stunt and we’d love to work with them on other ways they can leverage Jersey Shore to reach the largest youth audience on television,” said an MTV Spokesperson in a statement.

Sitch tweeted: “Looks like Abercrombie got themselves into a Situation!… “Thanks #SituationNation for always having my back and you are the best fans in the world! I love you guys!”  He then posted a link to an article detailing the company’s steady decline in stocks.  Yikes.

I agree with MTV.  This is a great publicity stunt.  Jersey Shore is still being watched by record numbers and Situation is more popular than ever.  Let’s call a draw and keep it moving people!

Beyonce: ‘Women Who Don’t Have Female Friends Scare Me’

Beyonce is rocking a super gold star dress on the cover of In Style’s September issue.  The physical issue doesn’t hit stands until August 19, but we’ve got a few highlights below:

On having girlfriends:

“I am a girl’s girl. Women who don’t have female friends scare me. I love my friends, and I love sitting with them and listening to their stories.”

On taking a break and being a mother and wife:

“It was great to be a wife and travel with [my husband]. I had to turn down great things. I did it for my sanity, my life, my relationships, my nephew, my husband, my sister and my friendships. I deserved to give myself time to focus on things besides performing, filming and recording…When you’re young —18 or 19 — you have the energy and drive. That’s the time to work as hard as you can. Now I’m a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage. I can decide I want to have kids. I can be the mother I want to be and dedicate myself to my children.”

She also admitted that Jersey Shore is her guilty pleasure.  LOVE IT!

‘Jersey Shore’s’ Pauly D. Slapped with $4 Million Lawsuit

Jersey Shore’s Pauly D. has bigger problems than deciding when to “GTL” this summer.  According to The New York Post, he’s now facing a $4 million copyright infringement lawsuit.

Paul Lis- another DJ who goes by the name “DJ Paulie”- is filing the suit, claiming that ever since Pauly D. made his debut on MTV, his business, that he spent more than 40 years building, has suffered.

“[Lis] formally trademarked the name ‘DJ Paulie’ and then came the ‘Jersey Shore’ which basically wiped him off the face of the map,” attorney Jose M. Rojas said.

“The reality television show [follows] a group of young adults pursuing a debauched lifestyle suggestive of loose morals, violence, intoxication and liberal profanity — the exact opposite of the reputation the Plaintiff, ‘DJ Paulie’ that[sic] he had spent decades cultivating,” the lawsuit alleges.

Mo’ money, mo’ problems.

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Suing His Father

Fame definitely has its flaws.

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino definitely has a situation on his hands.  He is suing his own father, Frank Sorrentino, for creating a website whose purpose is to defame the Jersey Shore star’s name.  Mike filed a suit in a Miami federal court yesterday claiming that his father illegally used his name and image to promote his site, TheConfrontationSite.com.

The website is ridiculous and sad.  Frank is on the site talking bad about his son left and right.  Mike claims that the site is putting a stake in business ventures; he’s going after his father’s business partner as well.

The Situation is asking the judge to demand that his father stop using his name and image on the website.  And of course, he’s seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.

Sad.

WTF News of the Day: Jersey Shore Cast Making $100,000 per Episode

Whoever said reality television would just be a fad should swallow their words.

As we all know, season four of the Jersey Shore has the cast going to the homeland-Italy- for a summer vacation.  The cast was originally slated to start filming overseas in the beginning of April, but this didn’t happen due to salary negotiations.  A source close to the show revealed to E! News today that each cast member-none excluded- will receive $100,000 PER EPISODE.

I’m not kidding, that is the real number.  Last season, each cast member “only” got around $30,000 per episode.  That Rutgers appearance must have been chump change to Snooki.

This is outrageous.   This angers me, but at the same time, the audience made this happen.   Everyone watching has made it this nationwide phenomenon- so of course they’ll feel entitled to their money…and a lot of it.

What do we think of this?

Snooki Covers Rolling Stone Magazine

Snooki..yes Snooki is on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine that hit stands this Friday. She talks about how she is trying to build an empire, which I believe she is very much capable of doing, being filmed constantly, and what it’s like watching herself on TV. Check out the highlights.

On watching herself on the show: “If I do something stupid, which is pretty much the whole time, I hate it. I just hate it. Obviously, they’re only going to put the good stuff in, and the good stuff is us drunk, so all I’m seeing is me drunk and falling down.”

On plans for her future: “What I’d like is to turn out like Jessica Simpson, with her whole brand. She makes millions…I’m trying to build an empire, because after this I can’t get a normal job. I mean, how do I go and sit behind a desk?”

On being filmed 24/7: “We can’t have cellphones, TV, radio or the Internet. If the president died, we’d have no idea. There’s no normalcy. It’s just like a prison, with cameras.”

Snooki makes a valid point, I can’t see her sitting behind a desk either. If she’s truly smart she’ll start building asap!
