Video: Affion Crockett Impersonates Jay-Z, Kanye, Wayne and Cory Gunz to Promote FOX Show

We all know Affion Crockett for his dead-on impersonations of hip-hop celebrities in his stand up and on MTV’s Wild N’ Out.  The comedian is stepping out on his own with a show on FOX produced by Jamie Foxx.  In the Flow will be a sketch comedy show with an urban twist and feature guests each week.

This week, he released a YouTube clip promoting the show.  In it, he sounds and looks the part as he impersonates Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and his prodigy Cory Gunz.

It is HILARIOUS to say the least.  In the Flow premieres this Sunday, August 14.  Will you be watching?

Mixtape: Cory Gunz- “Son Of A Gun”

Son of a Gun

You watched Cory Gunz  work his way up in the MTV documentary Son Of A Gun. Dealing with the hardships of the business and a crazy, demanding father, one thing stood out; this boy can really rap. Since the airing of the documentary, Cory has been hard at work in the studio and we now get the opportunity to vibe alongside him in his new mixtape entitled Son of a Gun.

Hosted by DJ Ill Will and DJ Rockstar, you’ll hear collaborations with almost his entire “Young Money” family. Take a listen below.

Lil Wayne Explains His Strategy For Young Money Artists

I think it’s safe to say that Young Money is the most powerful and popular crew in hip-hop right now.  Plenty have come and gone in the past (Murder Inc, G-Unit), but Lil Wayne plans to make the collective a lasting force.  In a sit down with MTV following his Unplugged taping, he talked about the artistic development of all his artists:

On Cory Gunz:

“I’m not gonna shove him in your face right now and make him a one-hit wonder…He’s nowhere near ready. He’s gonna do this the way artists should do it, the way Drake did it.”

On Lil Twist and not making him a “child star:”

“Twist is ready. Twist is a well-developed artist, and it’s about to be Twist’s turn… That’s why I didn’t shove Twist in nobody’s face. I could’ve been like, ‘This is our young artist’; the young, cute little artist of the label with all the adults,” he said. “I could’ve did that, but no, we’re gonna do this right. I didn’t want to put him out and have him as a kid star, and sometimes you don’t know what to do after that. So now he’s 18, he’s a teenager, and I don’t even have to look at the kid-star thing…I’m not gonna make a one-hit wonder.  That’s not what I do.”

On Shanell:

“Shanell is past ready. Actually she came into the game ready…That was no developing; that’s a superstar, that’s a very talented woman. It’s just that you have to properly handle her situation the right way, ’cause you don’t want nobody to miss the point, and the point is, that is a very talented woman, and that’s what I want everybody to see.”

I’m most interested in seeing Shanell’s career start up.  We see a lot of her, but have yet to really hear anything.

Nick Cannon Thinks Cory Gunz is a Genius

Media mogul and Son of a Gun creator sat down with Rap-Up to talk about the star of the show, Cory Gunz, and the potential he believes he has.  The show premieres tonight at 11pm on MTV:

What can we expect from “Son of a Gun”?
I like to say when I was creating the show, I was looking to do something very Scorsese-like. I’m a huge fan of Goodfellas and it’s just a coming-of-age story dealing with the mafia, except we’re doing a coming-of-age story dealing with the music industry, and it’s told through the eyes of Cory Gunz. A lot of people may be familiar with him, but when I was creating the show, I was asking around like, “Yo, I wanna know who the hottest young dude in hip-hop is right now coming up,” and everybody kept saying Cory Gunz. So I tracked him down and told him that I wanted to take his career to the next level and document the entire process, and that’s how we got the show.

What did you see in Cory?
Cory Gunz is a genius. At the end of the day, it’s the way he puts words together, the way he moves—he definitely is thinking on another level.

Do you think he will follow Drake and Nicki Minaj and become the next Young Money superstar?
I definitely think he can. I think he can be bigger than Drake and Nicki Minaj. I’m a huge fan of both of those acts, but Cory comes from a different place. He’s a street dude and he’s been living hip-hop all his life and the industry’s been buzzing about him for years. Jay-Z signed him when he was 17, so just the respect and the potential that everybody recognizes—and he holds the Bronx down like no other and that’s the birthplace of hip-hop—so I think we can see a lot of things from this cat.
