Lady Gaga Doesn't Think 'Born This Way' is Worth More Than $0.99

Lady Gaga is the woman of the hour…or should I say week.  Born this Way sold a beyond impressive 1,111,000 copies in its first week out.  We also reported to you that Amazon sold the album for $.99 during the album’s first two days out.  Those sales account for almost half of Gaga’s first week sales.  Amazon’s goal was to promote and bring awareness to their Cloud Drive service ; they paid the difference on each album in exchange for the exposure.  This means they will be paying a couple million dollars to Interscope.  Whether this proved to be a success for them depends on how you look at it.  Exposure is worth a lot these days; especially with online businesses.

In a recent interview with Wall Street Journal, Mother Monster was asked if she thought Born this Way was worth more than $.99:

“No. I absolutely do not, especially for MP3s and digital music. It’s invisible. It’s in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music,” she said. “It also wasn’t really 99 cents, because Amazon paid the difference on all of those purchases as part of their promotional campaign for one of their new services. I think it’s amazing and it was a really nice surprise and I felt honored that they chose my record to be part of it.”

“I don’t know if other artists or other companies would want to adopt the same model,” she told the WSJ. “Everyone always has the opportunity to sell their music at any price they want to. This sort of happened this way and it’s very exciting.”

It’s crazy to think that just a few years ago, everyone purchased c.d’s.  More artists were likely to sell millions in a shorter time span and record stores weren’t being shut down left and right.  Before we know it, c.d’s won’t exist.

What do you think of the Amazon model for selling albums?

Lady Gaga Sells 1.1 Million Copies Of "Born This Way" In The First Week

Lady Gaga is such a powerful force. As she has predicted she did it on em and sold a whopping 1.1 million copies of her album Born This Way.

According to GaGaDaily  this album has been the fastest selling this year and the ninth fastest in the country…EVER.

Online purchases are the success behind the album sales, digital sales totaled 662,000,which factors out to 60 percent of the album’s first week total. It is the biggest week for a digital album in SoundScan.

It’s being said that this album will top The Fame Monster. All I know is that Lady Gaga is the truth. 1.1 million, amazing.

Video: Lady Gaga Performs On "Good Morning America"

I always express how I love to watch a good performance. Everybody just doesn’t possess that stage presence that can make you want to get up to sing or dance. Well that everybody in no way includes Lady Gaga, she recently hit the “Good Morning America” stage and put on a show.

With her album slated to sell 1 million there’s no stopping Gaga and her little monsters. Check her out performing Judas, Hair, and Edge Of Glory.

Lady Gaga To Sell 1 Million in First Week

I predicted this!

The force that is Lady Gaga is taking over the Billboard charts this week.  Billboard projects that her third album Born this Way will sell more than a million copies in its first week.  Available at over 27,000 non-traditional retailers worldwide, the album sold over 500,000 copies in its first day alone.

What sends Born this Way on its way to the one million mark is Amazon.  The website offered the album for $0.99 two days this week; it shut down at one point because so many people were trying to buy the album at the same time.  Gaga’s team is not responsible for the discount; her manager Troy Carter says:  “Although we weren’t aware of Amazon’s deal that they were offering, I applaud them for their efforts,” Carter told The Lefsetz Letter.

It’s unusual for an artist to sell this much in one week.  Taylor Swift was the last one to reach this incredible feat; her last album, Speak Now, sold 1,047,000 in its debut week.  Before that, Lil Wayne famously sold 1,005,000 of Carter III.

What I think people should note is that unlike Swift and Wayne, Lady Gaga is selling a million simply because of who she is, not solely because of a hit first single.  She’s managed to create a brand of herself in three short years that so many “Little Monsters” are invested in.  If her albums continue to create these kind of numbers, I won’t be surprised.

Have YOU bought Born this Way?
