Legendary Motown Songwriter Nick Ashford Dies

Today is a sad day for music.

Nick Ashford, one half of Motown songwriting duo Ashford and Simpson, died today in a New York City hospital at a young 70 years old.  He was recently diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent radiation treatments.  He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

With wife Valerie Simpson, they wrote a handful of  Motown’s classic hits, mainly for singing duo Marvin Gaye  and Tammi Terell (“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Your Precious Love,” “Ain’t Nothin Like the Real Thing,” “You’re All I Need to Get By”). They were inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame back in 2002.

Rest in peace.
