Sade Talks Upcoming World Tour with Billboard

The super gorgeous Sade Adu covers the August issue of Billboard. Inside, her and her band Sade are talking about their upcoming 100+ city world tour. They are currently on the U.S. leg, with John Legend as their opening act. So far, it has racked up more than $36 million in sales and sold out most of its shows. Check out some article highlights:

Sade on preparing to tour:

“I do the opposite and pretend it’s not going to happen, immersing myself in the details of production as a way of distracting myself from reality.  When the time comes, I don’t test the waters — I just jump straight in.”

Tour collaborator Sophie Muller on Sade as a performer:

“The way she has been involved in setting up the show has enabled her to really develop as a performer. Normally she’s reticent, and a less-is-more performer. This time she’s blossomed. You can tell that the audience feels that.”

Sade’s manager Roger Davies on her timing:

“Everyone pretty much knows that she makes records when she feels it’s the right time and has the creative feeling to do it. I don’t think she’d put out a record in a rush, or if she didn’t think it was right.”

Sade on what they want the show to be:

“We wanted the show to be spectacular, transporting the audience on a surprising, emotional adventure at the polar extremes of dynamics. So for one moment they believe they are in a huge stadium and the next an intimate club where each note hangs in the air. This show is the best thing we have ever done as a band.  We know these are really hard times, so we better be greater than any expectations. It’s our way to say ‘thank you’ to our audience.”

Sade on future touring plans:

“I have absolutely no idea what the future holds. It’s a miracle to me we are here now. I just know I will look back on it and feel good.”
