PTC Criticize Rihanna's 'Man Down' Video
The Parents Television Council is a non profit organization that advocates responsible entertainment…and apparently they don’t like Rihanna. After comparing her “S&M” performance with Britney Spears at the Billboard Awards to a “Vegas stripper show,” they aren’t impressed with her “Man Down” video as well.
They disagree with the fact that killing your rapist (what Rihanna does in the video) isn’t a form of justice, but a “cold, calculated execution of murder.” They also disagree with the tweet Rihanna sent out after the video’s premiere: “a very strong underlying message 4 girls like me.”
PTC tweeted this: “If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass.”
First of all: poor Chris Brown. It’s a shame that people are STILL discussing him in relation to Rihanna. Second, when I first posted the video, I said that I wasn’t sure of the video’s overlying message. While the visuals show Rihanna killing her rapist with no remorse being shown, the lyrics talk about the guilt she felt after doing it. Both seem mix-matched to me, which would explain Rihanna’s versus the PTC’s response.
