We all have heard by now about the incident that occurred when Memphitz Wright, husband to reality star Toya Carter, was arrested at an Atlanta airport for carrying a 40 caliber gun in his backpack. I’m sure everyone hung their hand in shame and called him all sorts of names but now he tells the story from his point of view. He called in to Atlanta’s V-103 Frank and Wanda Show and said the following:
I’m embarrassed about it, I’m not proud of it…It’s not something I’m going around parading about. It really was a simple mistake… it was a big mistake.
I have a license. I went and took the time and got my license. It’s just for protection and self defense only, to protect my family. That’s what I was taught to do. I’m not driving around like a hoodlum out there. I usually have it locked up in the house or in my car when I’m traveling. So I took it out of my car and put it my backpack and put it in the house. I hadn’t traveled in a week or so and me & my wife were traveling. So we were headed to the Magic show in Las Vegas. We we’re rushing like “I can’t miss this flight.” So I picked up my computer and my bag and just went to the airport.
First of all, I would’ve never pushed my bag through the scanner. I’ve been traveling too long and I’ve transported guns before. Somebody was like, “Somebody got a gun; it’s a gun in this bag.” I was looking around like “What fool brought a gun?” and Toya was looking at me like “It’s in your bag.” “No, it’s not.” Then I started remembering and I was like “Ohhh, No! I put the..”
Officer Davidson, which thank you he really didn’t put me through the embarrassment of anything. He was like “I can feel your spirit and can tell you’re not into that type of stuff.” I was like “Man, I never would’ve …..but I know you gotta do what you got to do.” I told [Toya] she could go ahead and go to Las Vegas. She said, “I’m not leaving you.” I love my wife.
It’s unfortunate and hopefully he’s truly learned from this.
Leona Lewis has released the first single from her upcoming new album “Glass Heart”, she says this album will have a darker side but also uptempo songs that her fans will love. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard some new music from the “Bleeding Love” singer. Catch the video below.
Serena and Venus Williams have their beauty depicted on the cover of Hampton magazine. The duo celebrated the achievement in NYC at Rdv. Serena says:
“I remember Pete Sampras playing in 1990; I was watching on television, and I remember that was the first year he won a GrandSlam. He was really young, and they were talking about how good he was going to be. He was wearing such short shorts; they were almost like a bikini. [Laughs]
I definitely thought Pete was very handsome, but around 1996 I thought he was really hot—but I also think everybody is hot, so I don’t know if that is saying much.”
Venus spoke a bit about her style for the open:
‘The US Open this year is all about the little black dress, and I always put zippers in my dresses, so there will be a zipper down the back. Because I don’t ever wear black in the daytime, it will be opposing colors. Last year there were three different styles; this year it will be simple because it is just one, but in different colors.’
The two have been known for their great style on the court and while Serena is the more outgoing sister (well from the outside looking in) the both of them looked stunning. Go divas!
Jill Scott has released a heart-felt video for her third single “Hear My Call” from her #1 album “Light Of The Sun”. The diva cries and expresses true emotions as she asks God to help her get back on the right track. This video shows Jill in a vulnerable spot and many can probably relate.
Check it out.
We all know the Hollywood Walk of Fame for immortalizing the presence of Tinseltown’s biggest stars. Everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Ryan Seacrest to Judy Garland have made their place on the famoud street. But, will stars such as Kim Kardashian or Snooki ever get their chance? Hell no according to the Vice President for Media Relations and Producer for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ana Martinez.
“Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!” She told CNN after that that criteria for a star includes “longevity in their field of entertainment, awards and other honors, and philanthropic work.” Inductees this year include Jennifer Aniston (who recently had her induction ceremony), Jennifer Lopez and Kate Winslet.
So, being a reality star is cool, but not refined or long-lasting enough.
Do you agree with Ana Martinez?
Can you believe that Mary J. Blige’s 10th studio album will be hitting retailers in October?! This diva’s been doing the damn thing for a long time. Last night, she released a new single from My Life II: The Journey Continues called “25/8.” It’s produced by Eric Hudson with a super soulful beat and equally soulful lyrics:
“‘Cause I got days and days of love for you boy/ And I don’t wanna have to rush, but 24/7 ain’t enough/ ‘Cause I got so much love for you boy/ I need another hour and a day so I can love you 25/8.”
Rihanna is showing much love to her home country Barbados in the fun visuals for “Cheers (Drink To That).” The entire vid consists of behind the scenes footage of her LOUD Tour and visit back home.
Did she really just take a shot in the middle of her show?! This diva knows how to party!! I’m loving this. I think the visuals and song match perfectly.
Sidenote: Look out for a cameo from Avril Lavigne. Her song “I’m With You,” is sampled.
